In the state of Alaska, instructional assistants hired into a Title I schoolwide or targeted assistance program after January 8, 2002 must meet the following qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED equivalent
- Successfully complete at least two years (48 semester hours) of study at an institution of higher education or have an associates degree
- Pass a state approved assessment which demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of, reading, writing, and math
- Pass Paraprofessional Standards Checklist
It is important to note that the Alaska State Board of Education approved use of the following assessments:
Para Pro assessment– you must achieve the qualifying score which 459; test fee is a non-refundable $45 and additional fees may apply.
Educational Resources, Inc. HELP (Higher Education Learning Profile) can also be used for the content portion of the assessment.
