Requirements to work in Title I School
NCLB’s Highly Qualified Standard applies as a requirement for all teacher assistants seeking employment in Title I schools. An instructional paraprofessional in a Title I school-wide program or Title I targeted assistance program who is paid with Title I funds is required to meet at least ONE of following requirements in the state of Michigan:
- Successfully complete at least two years (48 semester hours) of study at an institution of higher education
- Graduate with an associates degree from a university or college.
- You will have to demonstrated your knowledge of reading, writing, and math by passing an exam approved by the state or school such as ACT Work Keys, ParaPro Assessment (passing score is a 460) or a local assessment.
Additional requirements that you might also have to meet:
CPR/First Aid certified
Pass state and federal background checks
