Requirements to work in Title I School
In the state of Tennessee, all teacher assistant must be considered “highly qualified” to work in programs assisted by Title I funds (school-wide or targeted assistance). Additionally, the minimum qualification is have a high school diploma or its equivalency.
To provide instructional services you should meet at least ONE of the following standards:
- Successfully complete at least two years (48 semester hours) of study at an institution of higher education
- An associates degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of, reading, writing, and math by passing a formal and state approved assessment such as the ParaPro Assessment (passing score is 456), or a local assessment.
