Teacher Assistant Requirements in West Virginia

   

Requirements to work in Title I School

In addition to holding a high school diploma/ GED, the No Child Left Behind’s Highly Qualified Standard applies as a requirement for all teacher assistants seeking employment in Title I schools, a Title I schoolwide program or Title I targeted assistance program who is paid with Title I funds. An instructional paraprofessional is required to meet at least one of following requirements in the state of West Virginia:

  • Successfully complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education
  • An associates degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Pass a state approved assessment

All applicants obtaining a paraprofessional certification must meet the proper credentials which may include any specific certification and application requirements.
